DIY Brightening Mask

Updated: Oct 1, 2020

There are so many reasons dull skin happens; it could be diet, hydration, lack of sleep, or hormones. For me sometimes all the reasons apply. This DIY brightening mask is safe, all natural, and works like a charm when I need a little pick me up. The best part is you probably already have everything in your kitchen!

First is the base, yogurt. You want to pick a plain greek yogurt because we want the least amount of artificial sugar. I use Fage 0% plain yogurt. Next is the honey. Honey has so many healing properties it soothes and heals reducing redness while being nourishing and hydrating. My personal favorite, lemons. You could use lemon essential oil or fresh squeezed, you will get the same result and it smells so delightful. Lemons help clear acne and dry out pimples while brightening skin. Finally cinnamon, this little baby will stop acne causing bacteria in it’s tracks, you will know it's working because you will feel a tingle. If it gets to be too much wash off immediately and put a little less cinnamon next time. I personally love the tingle, then I know its working! You will see a little redness following the mask it’s totally normal and means the mask is working even after you take it off.

I absolutely love this mask it has been my go to for years over any over the counter mask I have tried. And I have tried a lot. One new item that I am loving are the silicone mask brushes I found on Amazon. They make it so easy for even application and the silicone means easy to clean and no bacteria! WIN WIN!

Here is what you will need and the measurements:

Small bowl and spoon (linked is a kit with the brushes and a cute bowl with a measuring spoon for $12.99!)

Anthro White Bowls (these are the exact ones I have)

Silicone face brushes $3.99

fan face brushes $10 very cool has different brushes for different types of masks

Plain non-fat greek or regular yogurt - 1/4 cup

Raw honey - 1-2 tsp

Lemon or lemon oil - half a lemon squeezed or 5-10 drops of essential oil

Cinnamon - 1/2 tsp or less

Mix together and apply a thin layer all over your face leave on for 10 minutes then wash off with warm water and a wash cloth. For a cold mask, put in the fridge for 5-10 min before application to help with inflammation.

There are two products that I use on a daily basis for the better part of a year now to maintain clear and hydrated skin. The first one being Collagen For Her - powder. I add it to my coffee EVERY. SINGLE. MORNING. I saw improvement in the tone and moisture barrier of my skin in the first week. Within 3 weeks any current or past acne spots clear up.

The second product is OLLY Flawless Complexion gummies now renamed to Skin Detox and apart of their Sephora Collection. These gummies taste good they say its a berry mint but I barely taste any mint. They have minerals like Zinc and antioxidants like Vitamin A and Vitamin E to fight free radicals.
